Record the climate risk method
Record in the climate DMA of preeco | nachhaltigkeit how you looked for climate risks: scope of the screening, time horizons, climate hazards, transition events and method. Without it, the climate DMA cannot be activated.
Your report has to say how you looked for climate risks: how far you looked, what you looked for and how you judged what you found. You record this once per climate DMA. It is a blocking check – without it the climate DMA cannot be activated.
Prerequisites
- The climate DMA has the status “Draft”.
- You have the role Administrator, Manager or Editor.
- Helpful: your facilities are recorded. The option for your own sites then shows how many facilities are in the reporting boundary.
Step by step
- Open “Climate → DMA” and choose “Actions → Record the climate risk method” at the top right. The slide-over opens on the right.
- In the “Set the scope” section, tick under “Scope of the screening” what you checked: “Our own sites and assets”, “Upstream value chain”, “Downstream value chain”. If you leave something out, say why in the “Method” field.
- Under “Time horizon”, choose one or more horizons: short term (up to one year), medium term (one to five years), long term (more than five years).
- In the “Choose what you screened for” section, tick under “Climate hazards” every hazard you checked your sites and suppliers against: heat, river and surface flooding, water stress, storm and hail, drought.
- Under “Transition events”, tick every market or policy change you checked your business against: carbon pricing, customer requirements in tenders, technology shift, reputation and market access.
- In the “Describe how you judged it” section, describe in the “Method” field how you assessed exposure (can a hazard reach you?) and sensitivity (how badly would it hurt?). For physical hazards, where your sites and suppliers sit is part of the answer.
- Review the “What saving this does” section and click “Save”. The message “Climate risk method saved” confirms the step.
Good to know
- Every field is required: at least one scope, one time horizon, one climate hazard, one transition event and a method text.
- If the method is missing, “Validate completeness” reports “The climate risk method is not recorded” and offers the “Record the climate risk method” button right there. More in Validate completeness and activate the DMA.
- The slide-over does not ask for scenarios. You record them under “Risks & Scenarios”; under “Scenario analysis” the slide-over shows how many scenarios exist for the reporting period, or links there.
- The method is never deleted, only edited: open it again from “Actions” while the DMA is in draft.
Practical tip: The individual climate risks themselves – such as flood exposure at a plant – are recorded as IROs in the “Climate Change Adaptation” sub-topic area, see Add and assess an IRO. The method only describes how you looked for them.
