Add Energy Dataset

An energy dataset documents the consumption of one energy type within a reporting period – either for a single facility or at organization level. These datasets form the basis for reporting under ESRS E1-5 and provide the activity data for the Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions calculation.

Prerequisites

• At least one active reporting period exists for your team.
• At least one organization is created; for facility-specific entries, additionally at least one facility.
• You are signed in to your team and have permission to create energy datasets.

Step by step

1. In the left menu, navigate to “Climate → Energy Consumption”.
2. In the “Energy Datasets” section, click “Add Energy Dataset” in the top right. The “Add Energy Dataset” dialog opens.
3. In the “Organization” section, under “Organization”, select the organization the dataset belongs to.
4. In the “Facility” section, under “Facility”, select the relevant facility – or activate the “Entry at organization level (not facility-specific)” checkbox. When the checkbox is activated, the selection field for the facility is hidden.
5. Under “Reporting Period”, select the period the consumption data belongs to, for example FY 2025.
6. In the “Energy Details” section, specify the “Energy Type” – such as Electricity, Natural Gas, Diesel, Heating Oil or Renewable Electricity – and select the “Source Classification” (Fossil, Nuclear or Renewable). Optionally, store a “Description”.
7. In the “Consumption” section, enter the “Consumption Value” and the matching “Unit”, for example Kilowatt Hours, Megawatt Hours, Cubic Meters, Liters, Kilograms or Tonnes.
8. In the “Data Quality” section, select the quality level: Actual for measured values, Estimated for estimated values and Proxy for extrapolated values.
9. Optionally, upload evidence in the “Supporting Documents” section. Accepted formats are PDF, JPG, JPEG and PNG, each up to 20 MB, for a maximum of 10 files.
10. Click “Create Dataset”. Use “Cancel” to discard your entries.

What happens next

• The dataset appears in the “Energy Datasets” table; the period is taken from the selected reporting period, for example 2025-01-01 - 2025-12-31.
• The energy totals of the affected reporting period are recalculated automatically.
• The dataset is available to the completeness check and to the greenhouse gas calculation as activity data.

Practical tip: attach the utility bill as a supporting document right when you create the dataset. Consumption values must be verifiable during the external audit – assigning evidence afterwards is considerably more time-consuming.
