Run a batch water stress assessment via WRI Aqueduct

Instead of assessing every facility one by one, the batch assessment queries the World Resources Institute’s WRI Aqueduct database for several facilities at the same time and confirms the results in a single pass. ESRS E3 requires disclosures on which sites are located in areas with high water stress, and the confirmed classification provides exactly that basis.

Prerequisites

• You are working in preeco | nachhaltigkeit and an active reporting period is selected in the top right (for example “FY 2025”).
• The facilities to be assessed are created under “Settings → Organisationen und Einrichtungen”.
• “Latitude” and “Longitude” are stored for each facility — without coordinates, WRI Aqueduct cannot return any indicators.
• At least one facility does not yet have a confirmed assessment for the period.

Step by step

1. In the left-hand menu, open the group “Water and Marine Resources” and click “Water Stress Assessment”.
2. Check in the top right that the intended reporting period is active. The batch assessment always refers to this period.
3. In the top right of the table section, click “Batch Assessment”. The “Batch Water Stress Assessment” dialog opens on the right, with the header “Batch WRI Aqueduct Query” and the note “Query WRI Aqueduct for multiple facilities and bulk-confirm the results.”
4. In the “Reporting Period” section, check the “Period” shown and the number of “Eligible Facilities”. That figure names the facilities eligible for the query — the ones without a confirmed assessment for the period.
5. Start the query for the listed facilities and confirm the returned results in bulk.
6. If the note “All facilities already have a confirmed assessment for this period.” appears instead, nothing is left to do for this period; leave the dialog with “Close”.

What happens next

• For each queried facility, an assessment is created with the WRI Aqueduct indicators. After the bulk confirmation, the classifications are considered active.
• The confirmed stress level is transferred to the facility and determines which facilities and water sources count as exposed to water stress in other modules — for example in “Water Consumption” and in the “Water & Marine Resources DMA”.
• In the statistics bar above the table, “Assessed” rises while “Pending / Expired” drops accordingly.
• Individual facilities can still be assessed manually afterwards via “Add Assessment”.

Practical tip

Maintain the coordinates of your facilities before starting the batch assessment — only then will the WRI Aqueduct query automatically return standardised indicator values and save you manual research. Also note that the “River Basin” field must be filled in before an assessment can be confirmed; otherwise the message “River Basin is required before confirming an assessment.” appears.
