Import energy data in bulk
How to import energy consumption data from a CSV or Excel file in preeco | nachhaltigkeit instead of entering it record by record: build the template, upload the file, map columns, validate the data and import.
When you record many facilities on a monthly basis, entering consumption values individually is impractical. The bulk import takes the records from a CSV or Excel file in a guided four-step process – including column mapping and validation before the final import.
Prerequisites
- The target organization and its facilities have been created.
- The import file is available as a CSV, XLSX or XLS file and is no larger than 10 MB.
- You are signed in to your team and have permission to create energy datasets.
Building the template
The import file must contain at least columns for the facility, the energy type, the consumption value, the consumption unit, and the start and end of the reporting period. Source classification, data quality and estimation method are optional. The “Upload file” section links to a template for the expected format – build your file along that template instead of inventing your own column names.
Step by step
- Open the “Import energy data in bulk” page. The page is currently not accessible via the left-hand menu or a button: open it via the address bar by appending
/importto the address of the energy consumption page. The breadcrumb path then reads “Dashboard > Climate > Energy consumption > Bulk import”. - In the “Upload file” section, select the target organization under “Organization”. Import rows are later assigned via the facilities of that organization.
- Under “Data file”, select your prepared file. Accepted formats are CSV, XLSX and XLS up to 10 MB.
- Click “Upload & Continue”. Use “Cancel” to return to the energy consumption overview.
- In the “02 Map columns” step, match the columns of your file with the fields of the application.
- In the “03 Validate” step, check the imported data. Only then are the records finally transferred in the “04 Import” step, where you also see the result of the import.
What happens next
- The progress of the four steps “01 Upload”, “02 Map columns”, “03 Validate” and “04 Import” is displayed at the top of the page, so you always see where you are.
- After a completed import, automatic anomaly detection starts in the background for the imported records.
- You then review flagged values on the “Validation of anomalies” page.
Practical tip: test a new template with just a few rows first. Errors in the column mapping or in the units surface during the validation step – with a small file you correct them in minutes, with a full-year export across all facilities you do not.
