Check emissions completeness – Scope 1 to 3

Before you close a period, you need to know whether your greenhouse gas inventory is actually complete. The completeness check shows the coverage level for each scope in a reporting period, names missing material Scope 3 categories, and lists energy records that still have no emissions calculation.

Prerequisites

• Emissions calculations for the period to be reviewed have already been recorded. Without calculations, the check only returns empty findings.
• You are signed in to the team whose data you want to review and have access to “Climate → Greenhouse gas emissions”.

Run the check

1. Open the “Checking Emissions Completeness” page. It is currently not accessible via the left menu or a button: open the “Greenhouse gas emissions” page and append /completeness to the address in the address bar. The breadcrumb path then reads “Dashboard > Climate > Greenhouse gas emissions > Completeness check”.
2. In the “Reporting period” section, enter the date fields “Start of period” and “End of period” – usually the first and last day of your financial year.
3. Click “Run validation”. The result is built up below the period.

Read the result

• Four key figures summarize the finding: “Overall score” (completeness in percent), “Scope 1 facilities”, “Scope 2 facilities” and “Unprocessed energy”. Below them, “Overall completeness” shows the percentage degree of fulfillment.
• “Scope 1 — Direct emissions” reports the number of covered facilities. If a facility is missing, record an emissions calculation for it within the period.
• “Scope 2 — Indirect energy emissions” shows the coverage. If there is no data, “No Scope 2 data was found for this period.” appears.
• “Scope 3 — Value chain emissions” carries a status line for each category from “Category 1” to “Category 15”, for example “Missing — Material category without data”. Which categories are material follows from your Climate DMA.
• “Unprocessed energy records” lists energy records without a corresponding emissions calculation.
• “Data quality summary” shows the “Average DQS” and the dimensions “Reliability”, “Completeness”, “Temporal”, “Geographical” and “Technological”.

Close the gaps

1. Create an emissions calculation within the reviewed period for every facility that is not covered under Scope 1 or Scope 2.
2. Work through every entry in “Unprocessed energy records” by turning the energy record into an emissions calculation.
3. Record data for each Scope 3 category with the status “Missing — Material category without data”.
4. Click “Run validation” again and check whether the “Overall score” has increased.

Practical tip: work through the list “Unprocessed energy records” completely before the period close – every energy record without an emissions calculation is a gap in the Scope 1/Scope 2 inventory. ESRS E1-6 requires a complete emissions inventory across Scope 1, Scope 2 and the material Scope 3 categories.
