Choose the layout of the reporting form – steps, sections or one page

Decide per organisation how the reporting form arranges its fields: step by step (horizontal or vertical), in expandable sections or all information on one page. Every layout asks for the same fields and runs the same checks.

Last updated:

The layout of the reporting form determines how whistleblowers are guided through their report – step by step, in expandable sections or on a single page. The setting applies per organisation and takes effect immediately.

Prerequisites

  • You have the “edit” permission for the organisation in question.
  • You are under “Settings → Organisations”.

The four layouts

  • “Step by step (horizontal)” – the default. A step bar above the form shows where the reporting person currently is; they only ever see one step.
  • “Step by step (vertical)” – the same guided flow, but the step bar sits to the left of the form. On narrow screens it moves back above the form.
  • “Expandable sections” – all sections are stacked on one page. The current section is expanded, the others only show their header row. Whistleblowers keep an overview of the whole form.
  • “All information on one page” – every input field appears on one page and there is no separate review step. This layout suits short forms, for example when you have disabled optional details such as “Enable named reporting”.

Step by step

  1. Under “Settings → Organisations”, open the organisation you want.
  2. Switch to the “Reporting form” tab and scroll to the “Appearance” section. “Layout of the reporting form” shows the current setting.
  3. In the “Appearance” section, click “Edit”. A side panel opens with the name of the organisation.
  4. In the “Layout of the reporting form” field, select the layout you want.
  5. Click “Save”.

What happens next

  • The organisation’s public reporting form appears in the new layout straight away.
  • Every layout asks for the same fields and validates the input in the same way before the report is created. Only the presentation changes, not the content.
  • Which fields appear is still decided in the “Information in the reporting form” section on the same tab.

Practical tip

After saving, open the reporting form via the “Reporting form URL” in the “Internet address” section and run through a test report up to just before sending it. If you also use your own stylesheet, the article Style the reporting form with CSS lists the CSS classes that target each layout.
