Setting up and ordering a cookie banner
Under “Websites > Cookie banner”, administrators use “New” to set up a cookie banner in two steps: the website with its domains, home page for the scan, languages and linked privacy notice, then the tariff and payment interval. Billing is per cookie banner by page views per month, monthly or annually, for up to three domains. The first scan starts automatically after the order.
A cookie banner collects consent on your website in line with the TDDDG and the GDPR. preeco | datenschutz scans the website for cookies and services, the cookie banner blocks them until visitors consent, and every visitor decision is stored as evidence. Each cookie banner is a paid add-on and is ordered individually.
Prerequisites
- Your team is licensed for preeco | datenschutz.
- Only administrators of your team can order a cookie banner or change its tariff. Other users can edit existing cookie banners if their user group has the corresponding rights for “Cookie banner”.
How billing works
- Billing is per cookie banner, i.e. per website. One cookie banner covers up to three domains; subdomains count separately, “www.example.com” and “example.com” count as one domain.
- The tariffs S, M, L and XL are based on page views per month: up to 50,000, 250,000, 1,000,000 and 5,000,000. For more page views, our sales team will send you an offer.
- You pay monthly or annually. The booking appears on your next preeco invoice to the billing address in your settings.
- Evidence of consent is kept for 12 months, or for 36 months at a surcharge.
- Above the quota, the cookie banner keeps running and every consent is stored. You are notified at 80% and 100%. If the cookie banner exceeds its quota two months in a row, it moves up to the next tariff from the next billing period; you are told in advance.
- Cookie banners created during the trial stay free of charge with the limits of tariff S. The tariff and order step is skipped in that case.
Set up a cookie banner
- In the left-hand menu, click “Cookie banner” under “Websites”, then click “New” at the top right.
- In the first step, enter the “Designation” in the “Website” section, for example “Corporate website”.
- Under “Domains”, enter up to three domains, one per line, and under “Home page for the scan” the address where the scan starts.
- Choose the languages of the cookie banner. The cookie banner shows the language of the web page, otherwise the visitor’s browser language, otherwise the first language you chose.
- In the “Privacy notice” section, select the website’s privacy notice under “Link to”. If a privacy notice matches one of the domains, preeco suggests it. Each privacy notice can be linked to only one cookie banner.
- Set the organisations under “Organisation assignment” and click “Next”.
- In the tariff and order step, choose the “Payment method” (“Monthly” or annually) and the tariff (“Rate”). The “Order” section shows the summary.
- Under “Confirmation”, confirm the paid order in accordance with the terms and conditions and the data processing agreement, then click “Order with charges”.
After the order
- The cookie banner’s detail page opens with the status “New”, and the first scan of your website starts automatically (“First scan in progress”). Once it has finished you receive a notification; the cookies found are assigned to the services whose scripts set them.
- The script on your website delivers nothing until the first approval. Assign the services first, design the cookie banner, embed it and then approve it.
- Administrators change the tariff via “Change tariff” in the tariff section of the detail page; the new tariff applies from the next billing period. This is also where you switch the retention of evidence to 36 months.
- “Archive” stops delivery on the website and ends the tariff with the current billing period. Versions and evidence of consent are kept; an archived cookie banner cannot be reactivated.
Practical tip
Create the website’s privacy notice with its domain before you order the cookie banner. preeco then suggests it automatically when you set up the banner, and you can later add the cookie policy to it as a chapter without any detours.
