Error message: 'The connection to could not be established' – checking the model name

Background

If the error message "The connection to … could not be established" appears when using AI functions in preeco | data protection, the most frequent cause is an incorrectly entered model name in your team's AI settings. The model designation has to correspond exactly to the spelling used by your AI provider.

Prerequisites

• You are logged in as an administrator.
• You have a valid API key from your AI provider.

Step 1 — Open the configuration of the AI provider

1. Click Settings in the left sidebar.
2. Select the entry Integrations in the settings menu.
3. In the AI provider section, open the editing view via Edit.

Step 2 — Check the model name

The designation of the AI model to be used is stored in the Model field. Compare the entered value with the model list of your AI provider.

An incorrectly spelled, outdated model name or one that is no longer available from the provider means that the interface cannot execute the request — the error message mentioned above is the typical consequence. Enter the exact model identifier as stated in the documentation of your provider.

Step 3 — Check the API key and provider

If the error message still occurs, additionally check the following:

• The correct provider is selected in the AI provider field.
• The API key is valid, has not expired and is enabled for the selected model.
• Your team's network connection to the AI provider is reachable.

Saving and checking the effect

Save the configuration and then trigger an AI action in a specialist module (e.g. an AI suggestion on a risk analysis). If no error message appears any more, the model is configured correctly.
